Our Committment to the Environment
Global climate change is an important issue to Ichor and we recognize that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is everyone’s responsibility. We have taken many steps towards being more conscious of our impact on the environment. We do not have all the answers and we know we can continue to improve, but these are some of the areas that Ichor is acting responsibly for our collective benefit: Managing water usage: Our new water reclamation system recycles water usage during our entire manufacturing process. This means that we are constantly reusing the same water to manufacture new products. Managing energy use: Ichor redirects warm air generated from the air compressors used in our manufacturing process to heat the fabrication facility. This minimizes our total energy use for heating our facility. The water used to polish our finished stone products is kept at room temperature through the reclamation process. This keeps the water warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer which helps maintain a comfortable temperature for our employees while reducing our energy usage. Keeping employees and the environment safe from chemicals: Unlike factories that manufacture engineered products, our process has very limited use of toxic chemicals (epoxies, dies and other bonding materials) that are harmful to the environment and employees. Our process uses mostly water and recycled diamond tools. |
 Waste management: We use very few disposable products during our manufacturing process. We return all stone packing materials to the local suppliers for reuse. We also use very little paper during our manufacturing process; however any boxes or paper that is used is carefully separated to be recycled. Optimized use of stone material: Scrap material is used for multiple purposes. Larger pieces are used as remnants for smaller projects and smaller scrap pieces are used for samples. Managing tool supply: We are constantly rebuilding and resurfacing our tools to extend the usage life and to reduce creation of waste. Usage of recycled material: We use recycled wood to create templates for our clients. Plastic templates generated by our laser templating machine are constantly reused for radius cuts and circles. Sink templates are also constantly being reused. |
